If you want to print barcodes, then Datascan can offer you several solutions:

For 2D barcodes, we recommend for users of HP LaserJet printers the BarDIMM; for other users, you must incorporate code into your applications - you will need to contact us to discuss this further.

For 1D barcodes, the choice is greater:
The HP LaserJet user can use the BarDimm or a Custom DIMM/SIMM/Cartridge/Card for printers which will accept plug-in devices, Datascan can program any number of symbologies onto a user-installable module. See the hardware page for more information. Different barcode symbologies require different levels of encoding to be performed on the data you wish to print as a barcode. All barcodes are supplied with full instructions and worked through examples.

For printers which do not accept a plug-in device, we supply an item called an EASi-STORE. This will work with almost any page printer with a parallel port. See EASi-STORE for more information.

TrueType and PostScript Fonts - for users of Microsoft Windows (all versions from 3.1 to XP), or MacOS, we can supply you with a 1D barcode as a font which is accessible from a drop-down list in most applications. Different barcode symbologies require different levels of encoding to be performed on the data you wish to print as a barcode. All barcodes are supplied with full instructions and worked through examples or you can use our Barcoder software (Windows only) to help with this encoding. TrueType barcodes are visible on screen (WYSIWYG).

For users of any PCL printer, we supply the 1D barcodes as soft fonts, which work in a similar way to a plug-in device but must be downloaded each time the printer is initialized.

BarDIMM - a device which plugs into a memory slot on your HP LaserJet printer, the BarDIMM or BarSIMM is usable from any host system (including Windows, VMS, UNIX etc). The device includes many different barcodes (both 1D and 2D), euro symbols and dingbat fonts. No encoding of the data you wish to print is necessary. See the BarDIMM page for more information.
